As summer comes to a close, Nu Alpha Kappa (NAK) looks ahead to a new academic year filled with opportunities to grow and lead. From welcoming new national leaders and launching expanded workshops for undergraduates, to celebrating the strength of our alumni brotherhood, these highlights reflect how NAK’s values of culture, academics and brotherhood continue to thrive across generations.

Stepping up to lead

Following the conclusion of the 2025-27 national elections at this year’s National Leadership Development Conference (NLDC), NAK’s National Executive Board (NEB) appointed brothers to fill vacant positions supporting undergraduate needs.

The following brothers were sworn in:

  • AVP of Marketing – Manuel Zavala, Nu Chapter
  • AVP of Recruitment and Expansion – Eder Peralta, Lambda Chapter
  • AVP of Academic Standards – Pedro Villalobos, Nu Chapter
  • AVP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Eddie Sisneros, Sigma Chapter

“These appointments reflect our ongoing commitment to supporting undergraduates with strong national leadership,” said NAK CEO and President Carlos Mendoza. “Each of these brothers brings unique experience and perspective to their role, and I am confident they will help strengthen our fraternity as we enter the next academic year.”

The newly appointed leaders will focus on expanding chapter outreach, improving academic performance, strengthening recruitment efforts and elevating diversity and inclusion initiatives across the fraternity. In their first year, they will work closely with the NEB to build momentum in these key areas, while also learning the scope of their positions and establishing best practices for future terms. Updates on their strategic vision and initiatives for the academic year will be shared with brothers in the months ahead.

National Virtual Workshops for 2025-2026

NEB launched the NAK National Virtual Workshop Series for the 2025-26 academic year. The series provides undergraduate brothers with year-round opportunities for leadership development, chapter management training and personal growth. Building on the momentum of NLDC, the monthly workshops reinforce NAK’s commitment to culture, academics and brotherhood by delivering advanced, relevant training on topics that matter most to chapters.

Each one-hour session—currently optional and open to all undergraduate brothers—features 20 to 30 minutes of updates from national leaders, followed by interactive Q&A and discussion. Think of it as “NLDC 2.0 online”—a space where brothers can ask questions, troubleshoot challenges and collaborate with national leaders in a virtual setting.

While sessions will be recorded and available afterward, brothers are encouraged to attend live, especially when the topic directly supports their chapter officer role or responsibilities. Session times will be announced directly to chapters and via NAKchat.

NAK leaders attend NIC meeting in Indianapolis

NAK President and CEO Carlos Mendoza and AVP of Communications Abel Morelos represented the fraternity at the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) Annual Meeting of Members, held Aug. 23–26 in Indianapolis.

Throughout the week, they joined sessions on recruitment, fundraising, leadership and strategic planning while also participating in the Fraternity Growth Accelerator (FGA), a collaborative program that supports emerging fraternities. Both leaders walked away with fresh ideas and practical strategies to strengthen the undergraduate experience and guide NAK’s future.

“The NIC gathering gave us the chance to connect with peers across the country and learn what’s working in the fraternal movement today,” Mendoza said. “We’re committed to bringing those insights back to our brothers and putting them into action.”

“Being part of the FGA is especially valuable,” Morelos added. “It ensures NAK has a seat at the table when discussing growth, resources and innovation—things that directly benefit our chapters and members.”

NAK Alumni Softball Tournament arrives to the Bay Area

Brotherhood, competition and tradition came together at the 14th Annual NAK Alumni Softball Tournament on Aug. 23 at Arcadia Ballpark in San Jose, CA.

Eight alumni teams competed in a day filled with camaraderie, rivalry and NAK pride. Whether playing, cheering from the sidelines or reconnecting, brothers were reminded that the bond of brotherhood never fades.

The winners of this year’s tournament were the Rho Chapter alumni’s Low Brewins. Congratulations to them and to all alumni teams who participated.

As we enter the last quarter of 2025, the NEB encourages all brothers to stay engaged, support one another and carry forward the mission of NAK. Whether through leadership, learning or tradition, our shared commitment ensures that the bond of brotherhood continues to grow stronger year after year.
